Day 1 - OCTOBER 14 - DEPART USA

Motorcoach transportation with select pick up points is included to Chicago O’Hare, where you’ll board your overnight flight.


Day 2 - OCTOBER 15 - ARRIVE IN BUDAPEST

Welcome to Budapest. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe, Budapest has no shortage of things to see and do. Explore the city and enjoy your stay in a luxury room overlooking the Danube River at the 5-star Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge Hotel.

Day 3 - OCTOBER 16 - RENDEZ-VOUS WITH BUDAPEST

With your knowledgeable host and guide, you’ll discover the treasures of Budapest. We will first visit the Buda side of the city with the Castle district with its romantic narrow lanes and one-story buildings, its charming Fishermen's Bastion and the "jewel" of the Castle district, the Matthias Church.

You will see the massive fortress, the Citadel, and the imposing Statue of Liberty on Gellért Hill, from where you have a breathtaking view of the Danube and over the entire city.

Several bridges, all with their own special beauty connect the two sides of the Danube, Buda and Pest. Each bridge was rebuilt after World War II.

On the Pest side you will see the Vajdahunyad Castle and the City Park. The country's dramatic history comes to life on Heroes Square, with the Millennial Monument. While driving through the wide avenues and boulevards, we will pass by the Opera House; St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Parliament Building. You will take a glance at the Liberty square of Budapest where the only still existing Russian Memorial is located on the same square with the US Embassy of Budapest.

After having seen all the highlights of the city from the motorcoach, we continue our tour with a walking session showing guests astonishing architectural gems right in the inner-city, complemented by a coffee break.

This walking tour introduces you to Budapest’s most fascinating contemporary stories, legends and myths will take you back to the century when following west European patterns, the aristocracy and the upper middle classes had wonderful Classicist, Eclectic and Art Nouveau mansions, villas and schools constructed.

On the way we drop by the Strudel House, where guests can learn about the traditions of the strudel-streching, and can taste this delicious sweet as a refreshment.

Some of the buildings included: Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Thonet House, Saint Stephen’s  Basilica, Royal Postal Savings Bank, BedÅ‘ House, Design Terminal and inner courtyards.


Day 4 - OCTOBER 17 - VIENNA

Day 5 - OCTOBER 18 - VIENNA

Vienna is a city both steeped in history and on the cusp of current trends. Your panoramic city tour showcases all the imperial Habsburg grandeur of the stately Ringstrasse, taking you past the Rathaus (City Hall), Parliament, the Hofburg (Imperial Palace), and the State Opera, among other sights. Leaving the motorcoach, you will start a walking tour through the Hofburg grounds, culminating at the magnificent Baroque State Hall of the Austrian National Library, which is said to be the most beautiful library room in the world. For a more intimate look at this stunning city, “See Vienna as the Viennese Do” walking and riding the subway to discover the daily life of the Viennese in the historic town center. Top off your tour with a stop at a traditional Viennese coffee house. (BB, L, D)

Day 6 - OCTOBER 19 - CRUISING THE WACHAU VALLEY, MELK

Today you’ll cruise the scenic, vineyard-rich Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape representing one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe. Then tour Melk’s 900-year-old Benedictine abbey, a masterpiece of Baroque art and architecture situated high atop the granite cliffs of the Danube. The views from the terrace are spectacular, but the splendid frescos, marble, and gilded plaster work of its interior will be the true highlight of your visit. (BB, L, Captain's Welcome Gala)

Day 7 - OCTOBER 20 - PASSAU

Passau boasts a delightful layer of Italian style on top of quintessential German foundations. Explore the well-preserved town on your guided walking tour. Then visit St. Stephan’s Cathedral, home to Europe’s largest pipe organ, to hear a magnificent organ recital. (BB, L, D)

Day 8 - OCTOBER 21 - DEGGENDORF (THERESIENTHAL)

After enjoying an exclusive scenic horse-drawn carriage ride through an authentic village in the Bavarian Forest and enjoying homebaked bread fresh from the oven, you will head for the world-famous glass manufacturer, Theresienthal. Here you will experience the fine art of crystal glassmaking firsthand during a workshop where you will learn all the various steps involved, as well as the extraordinary history of Theresienthal, once the purveyor of the finest crystal to the royal houses of Europe and the Russian czars. Spend your afternoon taking a scenic stroll or bike ride along the Danube and through the small town of Deggendorf. (BB, L, D)

DAY 9 - OCTOBER 22 - REGENSBURG

Regensburg, one of the finest Medieval towns in Europe, captures 2,000 years of living history with outstanding manmade monuments like the 12th-century Stone Bridge and the towering Gothic cathedral. Your walking tour takes you past the architectural treasures of Old Town as well as the Cathedral of St. Peter with its magnificent 14th-century stained glass windows. Genuine Bavarian hospitality adds to the vibrant mix of art and culture in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. (BB, L, D)

DAY 10 - OCTOBER 23 - CRUISING THE MAIN-DANUBE CANAL, NUREMBERG

After cruising the most scenic parts of the Main-Danube Canal, a marvel of modern engineering, visit Nuremberg, an archetypal Medieval German city encircled by mighty defensive walls and red-roofed buildings. Birthplace of Albrecht Dürer and famous for its pocket watches, the city also held the astounding War Crimes Trials after WWII. Discover the sights of Nuremberg during a panoramic tour. Or turn back the pages of history with a guided tour of the city’s most important WWII sites, including the enormous Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds, the actual site of the Nazi party rallies, and home to the permanent exhibition “Fascination and Terror.” You’ll also visit the newly opened Nuremberg Trials Memoriam which includes Courtroom 600, venue of the Nuremberg Trials that were so instrumental in forging our current ideals of international criminal law.
