Ryndam

Since 1994, Holland America's 10-deck, Italian-built Ryndam has had a triple-deck atrium, complete with a fountain created by sculptor Gilbert Lebigre. Re-launched in 2004, the ship now proudly features millions of dollars of upgrades, seamlessly blending the best of Old World tradition with state-of-the-art modern technology. In keeping with Holland America's tradition of artistic display, the ship showcases a $2 million art and artifact collection built around the theme of Dutch exploration.

After a run on Ryndam's jogging track or a workout in the fitness center--or even a day lounging on a deck chair--passengers can pamper themselves with a visit to the Ocean Spa and its massage tables, sauna, steam room, juice bar, beauty salon, and barber shop. Two swimming pools beckon from the outdoor deck. For those seeker quieter pursuits, the Delft Library, the card room, and puzzle room offer respite.

The two-level, 657-seat dining room serves formal, elegant meals to the accompaniment of a string quartet. Its walls feature four classic paintings by Dutch artist Gerti Bierenbroodspot. Cruisers may feast on casual breakfast and lunch buffets in the Lido restaurant. There are five lounges onboard, including the Ocean Bar, Piano Bar, Explorers Lounge, and the Crow's Nest, a cross between an observation deck and a nightclub. The 600-seat Vermeer Show Lounge features Broadway-style entertainment and has a tulip motif throughout. Movie screenings all take place in the 249-seat Wajang Theater, and Lady Luck has been known to spread some of her magic in the casino.
